Biography.
Born in Warkworth New Zealand in the seventies and of Welsh and German descent, Cherry's childhood was spent growing up on dairy farms starting at age five in Opunaki, Taranaki. Then the family headed North to dairy farming in the rural Hibiscus Coast.
Teenage years were spent at Paeroa in the Hauraki Gulf, leaving school early due to a mild form of dyslexia. So the last thing cherry thought of becoming was an Author!
For the most part of her life, Cherry has worked as a 'jack of all trades', mainly in the food & wine industry, temping in Australia and property renovation.
In her late twenties, she met the love of her life and spent seven years with him. After the honeymoon period was over and living with years of toxic verbal abuse, she attempted to leave several times. It was a policeman whom sparked off her first book with his ability to truly listen, in addition to his specialized understanding of psychological abuse issues, inspired her to write "But...I Love You", in an effort to create awareness of this type of covert abuse, and to help other women.
Since publishing in 2012 and selling privately, she has also gained accreditation in counselling, which has opened a door for Cherry to educate others in recognizing psychological abuse patterns. Having met many women from every stage of this specific form of abuse over the past years; victims, survivors to over-comers, and hearing familiar difficult stories. The most empowering event was helping a teenager whom read
But... I Love You, suddenly gain awareness of the path she was on, then deciding to change the outcome of her path herself.
It is a sad fact that New Zealand despite it's clean green tourist image, has one of the highest abuse rates in the world; domestic, child and animal.
Since completing 'But... I Love You', Cherry has continued writing, though pacing herself slowly in life, as overcoming what she has been through does not leave one unscathed health-wise.
Being a natural Artist, she enjoys painting in acrylics; design and photography. However, photography is the creative outlet Cherry enjoys the most and has won prizes in this area.
Today, Cherry lives happily with her two sons in the Waitomo District and her next book near completion is: 'The Final Five'.
